  1. To make the browser use the correct encoding, add an HTTP header like this:

    header("Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1");

     or put the encoding in a meta tag:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
